About Us
Australian Training for Fitness Professionals (ATFP) is an innovative Pilates Exercises & Fitness Institute established in 1999 and is an AUSactive approved CECs Provider for Certificate III/IV qualified instructors in Australia.

ATFP is a professional therapeutic Pilates studio for clinical Pilates learning & development. We had been awarded the ISO 9001 Train-The-Trainer status by the SGS in 2002 which demonstrated our high-quality professional training standards. Since April 2023, we have been working in partnership with the University of Sunderland Hong Kong (UoSHK) to review and enhance the Certificate in Professional Teacher for Pilates Practice and Fitness Management course and obtain the UoSHK’s endorsement for its vigorous structure, practical training objectives, relevant contents & methods, and quality-assured assessment on training outcomes. We have served several well-known organisations such as the Hong Kong Education University, the Hong Kong Polytechnics University, Tuen Mun District Health Centre, and Spare Time Study Centre to provide therapeutic Pilates classes.

Preamble
In recent years, there have been increasing postural corrections and functional abnormalities in general injury occurrence. The Certificate in Professional Teacher Training for Pilates Practice and Fitness Management is designed to enable the fitness instructor/personal trainer to prescribe therapeutic Pilates exercise interventions to correct both postural and functional abnormalities.

Course Purpose & Targeted Participants
The Certificate in Professional Teacher Training for Pilates Practice and Fitness Management is targeted at professionals working in Pilates Training and Management who wish to enhance their training and fitness management capability and/or upgrade their personal Pilates training qualification for career advancement.
Whether you are a Personal Trainer, Yoga Teacher, Physiotherapist, and/or Fitness Centre Manager, the Certificate in Professional Teacher Training for Pilates Practice and Fitness Management can offer you the relevant and required competencies to be successful in your career advancement, and become more competitive in the Fitness Training market. The Certificate would also help you to be an effective and efficient management professional in setting-up successful Pilates business operations by providing one-on-one lessons or running a group class at a professional Pilates studio.

Introduction
Pilates Mat-Works and Reformer exercises have an established presence in the fitness and therapeutic sectors, a good understanding of which is vital for training and instructing. These exercises can be targeted at supporting participants’ recovery from abnormalities such as vertebral subluxation, scoliosis, and pelvic tilt. The Certificate in Professional Teacher Training for Pilates Practice and Fitness Management is designed by the Australian Training for Fitness Professionals (ATFP) and endorsed by the University of Sunderland Hong Kong Campus for its relevant training objectives, contents & methods, stringent assessment criteria, and vigorous quality assurance, which facilitating the participants’ successful completion of the required examination in Australia.

Course Structure
The Course consists of 15 weeks of 3-hour training sessions, plus 10 hours of teaching practice, totalling 55 hours with the integration of theories and applied sessions to consolidate competencies in Professional Teacher Training for Pilates Practice and Fitness Management.
Course Sessions breakdown:
• 6 hours (Common Core Basics)
• 14 hours (Reformer)
• 10 hours (Mat-work Training)
• 15 hours (Pilates Equipment such as Wander Chair, Barrel, and Cadillac)
• 10 hours (Pilates Exercise practice and Prescribed Teaching)

Syllabus Outline
Module 1 – Preparing the Core Connection
• Analyse Pilates physics, human anatomy, biomechanics and cell evolution theories
• Trace family history and basic principles of Pilates, Reformer and Mat-work
• Elaborate technical terms on imprinting, scooping, elongating, hollowing and connection
• Activate the Core power from the Pilates powerhouse, and 12 full body connection points
• Interact the triangle of Pilates, Core , and Therapy
• Apply Stabilizers, Initiators and Mover (SIM) in the fitness exercises

Module 2 – Connecting Pilates Reformer and Mat-work
• Using Pilates equipment to reset internal and external muscle balance
• Performing the Eight Principles on the Pilates Reformer and Mat-work
• Application of Pilates exercise for rehabilitation movements
• Teaching clinical Pilates exercise skills
• Prescribing Pilates exercises that target chronic pains
• Designing and teaching appropriate prescriptive Pilates training programme

Module 3 – Using the Trapeze Table and Pilates Tools for Postural Corrections
• Teaching the Trapeze Table exercises to improve body alignment
• Using 3D integrative exercise approach on the Trapeze Table to correct postural abnormalities
• Appling the Trapeze Table to solve the body imbalance of posture pains
• Practising the four Pilates tools of the Wundar Chair, Orbit, Barrel Ladder, and Spinal Board to improve the body posture
• Rehabilitate Hip and Shoulder pains

Module 4 – Professional Pilates Studio Management and Teaching Practice
• Advance Pilates Teaching skills and client servicing
• Professional Pilates studio management
• Using imagery skills in the Pilates exercises
• Teaching Practice I – small group teaching skills
• Teaching Practice II – group training methods and class management

Course Structure

The Certificate in Professional Teacher Training for Pilates Practice and Fitness Management consists of TWO Parts:
Part 1
Module 1 and Module 2
The participants may have the option of completing Module 1 and Module 2 and acquire an award of:
• Certificate in Reformer Pilates Instructor (Therapeutic Movement) and Pilates Mat-work Exercises

Part 2
Module 3 and Module 4
OR completing both Part 1 and Part 2 (4 modules) for the full course and acquire the following awards of:
• Certificate in Reformer Pilates Instructor (Therapeutic Movement) and Pilates Mat-work Exercises
• Certificate in Professional Teacher Training for Pilates Practice and Fitness Management

Assessment
Module 1: 30 Multiple-choices on Pilates Concepts
Module 2: 30 Multiple-choices on Theories and Assessment on the Uses of Reformer and Mat-work
Module 3: 40 Multiple-choices on Theories and Assessment on the Uses of Trapeze Table and Rehabilitation Tools
Module 4: Teaching Practice Observations and Participants’ Feedback on Teaching Practice

Entry Requirements
• Personal Trainer, Yoga Teacher, and/or Fitness Instructor
• Completion of Grade 11/12 or Form 5 (HK students)
• Consideration will be given to mature students (21 years old or above)
• A keen personal interest and involvement in health, fitness and sports activities
